I love birds and I have feeders for some of my favorite ones such as cardinals, blue jays, finches and others that come to eat. I especially love hummingbirds and not only do I feed them, I also plant flowers to attract them. So, I get to enjoy them from May to about September or October. The joy I have when I see my first hummingbird of the season and believe it or not, I get so upset when I see the first one come, and look in the window as to say, “What is going on, Lady, where is my feeder?” One will actually stare into my balcony door windows! Lol! I quickly get up and find the feeder that I have had since 2012, rinse it off, and fill it with sugar water. I like to think I have the best “sugar water in town or in this part of town”. No, no arrogance…just a statement that may be true based on the observations I am going to share with you.
Observation #1
There are 3 holes on the feeder, but they will not share. The will fuss at each other – yes they have little hummingbird sound with gyrations ( for us it would be our neck moving and eyes rolling).
Life Thoughts: We must work to always understand that there is plenty of juice (customers, clients, speaking engagements, etc.) for everyone. There is no need to fuss, fret or become jealous about the movement and desires of other. You will have just exactly what you are supposed to have in life. Relax! My Mother would tell me, “Do not be jealous of anyone, you do not know how many days they have left on this earth and they need to get it now”
Observation #2
Once the hummingbirds are here for about a month, there is a bully hummingbird that emerges and sits on top of my small shepherd’s hook and guards the juice. Now, the bully hummingbird will only let his, I believe partners, drink the juice.
Life Thoughts: There is always a negative informal leader that will arise amid a group of people. I am sure we have all experienced such a leader and everyone is terrified to stop the madness. I am not sure in the hummingbird world, but for us until you or someone confronts the bully, nothing changes. Confrontation does not have to be negative; you can have positive confrontation as well to stop the bully.
Observation #3
Less aggressive hummingbirds will drink all they need to do the amazing things they do, like fly backwards and then they fly away and sit in an unassuming place such as the cable wire and wait until another hummingbird comes along to drink and then fly in with the speed a fighter jet to stop them from drinking.
Life Thoughts: This reminds me of a passive aggressive move. A person acts as if all the well until you get right in the place you need to be and then they come out of nowhere. In the 70’s, we would say, “they come out of a bag”. Lol! Be cognizant of all the actors in your play. Some are there to help and some are there to hurt.
What sort of life thoughts can you gain from hummingbirds?
Something to ponder, until next time.
Talk Soon,
Marilyn
